Management Accounts

Annual accounts tell you what happened last year. Management accounts tell you what is happening now. They provide regular financial information throughout the year so you can make quicker, better decisions and stay in control of performance, cash flow and tax planning.

What’s included

We tailor management accounts to your business, typically including:

    • Profit and loss report with month-by-month and year-to-date views

    • Balance sheet with movements and key ratios

    • Cash flow report and short-term cash forecast

    • Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) relevant to your sector

    • Variance analysis against prior periods, budget or forecast

    • Commentary highlighting risks, opportunities and recommended actions

Typical KPIs might include gross margin, debtor days, creditor days, stock turns, cash runway, utilisation, average order value, pipeline coverage and churn or retention rates where relevant.

Why they matter

    • Earlier, smarter tax planning instead of year-end surprises

    • Faster, evidence-based decision-making on pricing, costs and investment

    • Better cash control with forward visibility of peaks and pinch points

    • Stronger narrative for lenders and investors with credible, timely numbers

    • Clear accountability across teams with targets everyone understands

How often

We can prepare management accounts monthly, quarterly, or to a schedule that suits you. For fast-moving businesses we recommend monthly reporting; for stable, lower-volume businesses, quarterly may be sufficient. We can also produce one-off packs for board meetings or lender reviews.

Our process

    1. Scoping call to agree objectives, KPIs, format and timetable.

    2. Data connection or document checklist for bookkeeping and bank feeds.

    3. Preparation of the first pack and baseline review meeting.

    4. Ongoing production, usually within 10 working days of period end.

    5. Review meeting with clear actions and ownership for the next period.

If you need help with bookkeeping, we can streamline your system first. We support KashFlow, QuickBooks, Xero, Sage and spreadsheets, and can integrate with your existing processes.

Deliverables

    • PDF pack for circulation to directors and stakeholders

    • Optional Excel or CSV exports for deeper analysis

    • Dashboard highlights page for quick reading

    • Action list tracking risks, opportunities and deadlines

Who benefits most

    • Owner-managed companies that want tighter control and fewer surprises

    • Growing businesses seeking funding or investor confidence

    • Teams that need better visibility of margins, costs and cash

    • Any business preparing for sale or significant investment
