Insurer Hiscox has published data which reveals that 61% of small UK firms have experienced a debilitating cyber-attack in the last year.

The data found that the cost of dealing with a cyber-attack has sky rocketed for many small businesses. It also suggested that attackers are increasingly likely to shift their focus from large firms to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Even small businesses can retain a lot of private data so falling victim to a cyber-attack could be very detrimental. Especially with a lot of businesses now opting to communicate mainly by email over post, if an attacker intercepts the emails it could cause a massive data breach.

Quote from Nigel Holland:

“Make sure to keep your networks protected using anti-malware software and make sure not to click any suspicious links that you do not recognize. Also, one thing that people do not realise is that you can receive a virus just by opening emails so take care when opening them even from people that you know.”
